Software Development and Quality Assurance Process Standards

This chapter deals with the following standards: IEEE Standard 730 for software quality assurance; ISO/IEC/IEEE Standard 12207 for establishing common framework for processes; and IEEE Standard 1012 for verification and validation (V&V). The IEEE Standard 730‐2014 presents the requirements that cover the initiation, planning, control, and execution aspects of software quality assurance (SQA) for the full life cycle of a software project. The ISO/IEC/IEEE Std. 12207‐2008 provides a framework that incorporates the entire spectrum of software life cycle processes. The main body of the ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207‐2008 Standard and the IEEE 1012‐2012 are dedicated to a description of the processes, activities, and tasks of the software life cycle. The IEEE Standard 1012‐2012 is a process that defines all SQA activities throughout the entire software life cycle as V&V activities. The standard requires the application of V&V activities for system, software, hardware, managerial and administrative processes.
