Bandwidth analysis of boomerang slot rectangular microstrip patch antenna

A planar rectangular microstrip patch antenna fed at the center with microstrip fed technique is being presented in this paper. The proposed patch antenna designed using Ansys HFSS, is having a pair of boomerang shaped slots and two notches both being symmetrical to the y-axis. Two u-slots in the ground plane augmented the total bandwidth. The antenna operating frequency is in the ultra-wide band range and achieved a bandwidth of 7.11 GHz from 2.43 GHz to 9.54 GHz. The obtained radiation pattern from the simulation showed broadside pattern in the direction of the radiation with very small back lobes when operated in the operating band. Thus the proposed microstrip antenna can be utilized for various applications incorporating Bluetooth (2.402 GHz–2.480 GHz), WLAN {2.4 GHz–2.4835 GHz (IEEE802.11b, g); 5.15 GHz–5.35 GHz (IEEE802.11a) and; 5.725 GHz–5.85 GHz(IEEE802.11a)}, UWB (3.1 GHz–10.6 GHz) and WiMax {2 GHz–u66 GHz (IEEE802.16); 2 GHz–11 GHz (IEEE802.16a)} operation.
