Fault-ride through capability of a distribution system with diesel, solar and wind distributed generators

The main aim of this work is to study the impact of penetrating Diesel, Solar and wind distributed generators into a 27 bus, 69kV/100 MVA distribution system. The 27 buses, 69kV, 100MVA distribution system along with distributed generators was designed & modeled in DIgSILENT Power Factory. A dynamic P-Q control for VSC of solar generator was designed. A dynamic electrical control (P-Q for Rotor VSC, Vdc-Q for Grid VSC) was designed for the control of back-to-back converters of Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). The stability of all distributed generators in grid connected mode for a 3ph short circuit fault was studied. The impact of distributed generators on unforeseen increase in fault currents was observed and nature of distributed generators was analyzed by monitoring the fault current for a 3ph short circuit fault. The fault ride through capability of distribution system in the presence of distributed generators was investigated by correlating critical clearing time (CCT) for a 3ph short circuit fault and electrical distance (ED) between fault bus and distributed generator bus.
