Technology for affordable, inclusive, and efficient healthcare — Case study of AmbuPod

Healthcare is the right of every human being. But in India, it is a privilege that the poor and the needy in rural areas cannot afford. India has massive healthcare gaps. According to Sudarshan Ballal, Chairman, Manipal Hospitals, there is a shortage of four million hospital beds, two million doctors, and four million nurses(Affordable Healthcare Conclave, Feb 2017, at IIM, Bangalore put together by Management Next magazine and The Centre for Public Policy). Rural India has six times less doctors than urban India. In developing countries many people die because they are not treated on time. Most of these deaths can be prevented through timely quality care. India today is facing the challenge of making available quality health care that does not result in financial hardships, and also of bringing in social insurance that will enable the poor to access private health services along with public services. The paper studies Lynkambupod Pvt. Ltd. that has come up with Ambu Pod which seeks to answer this problem. The study is important as India needs such organizations that employ technology to come up with innovative, affordable healthcare for the poor in urban and rural areas. The researchers employed primary qualitative research technique of subjective interview as also secondary research data.
