Improved SIW Corrugated Technique With Grounded Coplanar Waveguide Transition

An improved substrate integrated waveguide corrugated technique with grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) transition is presented in this letter, based on which three antennas are designed and tested. Compared to our previous antenna, more bandwidth and higher gain can be achieved in the first design. Probes at the slot and grooves are used to monitor the in-phase responses, which can provide guidance for an efficient parameter optimization. Subsequently, a further minor gain enhancement can be achieved in the second improved design, which employs two neighboring grooves in each side. A five-element slot array is introduced in the third antenna, which can enhance the gain in both E- and H-planes, with a 2.87 GHz bandwidth (10.25%) and a gain up to 15.5 dBi.
