A New Method for Analyzing the Nonlinear Traffic Phenomena Based on the Stability Model

We present a new method for analyzing the complex nonlinear phenomena of the traffic. This method converts the traffic flow problem into a system stability one by use of the transformation of variables. So these theories and methods of stability can be applied directly to solve the traffic problem. In order to illustrate this new method further, we use the GK model and phase plane diagrams to analyze traffic phenomena observed in traffic flow. The results showed that the stop-and-go traffic phenomenon described by the new method is consistent with that described by the traditional temporal development of density. Moreover, the new method highlights the system stability.
