Electric machine stator thermal sensitivity analysis using CFD

Demand for hybridization of vehicles is increasing day by day with increase in emission regulations. High power electric machine is an integral and very much essential part of any hybrid vehicles. Electric machines used can be either air cooled or oil cooled. In this paper, we have used an oil cooled electric machine used for high power application for our study. This paper deals with thermal sensitivity analysis of electric machine stator oil flow path. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to study various parameters that effect the flow in the stator. Effect of mass flow rate of oil, stator geometry shape and oil inlet flow path on thermal parameters such as heat transfer coefficient (HTC), Oil temperatures, Stator temperature are discussed.
