Routing and charging scheme with ferry nodes in Mobile Adhoc networks

The challenging issue of Mobile Adhoc networks with heterogeneous architectures is to utilize the energy of the nodes efficiently so as to prolong the network lifetime with improved performance and scalability. However, on-demand and hybrid routing protocols try to increase the network life time but doesn't guarantee a network remain operational forever. This is because the nodes drain out of energy in a period of time due to forwarding nature. Therefore, it is required that the nodes to be charged on the basis of their expected lifetime to improve network connectivity and lifespan. Hence, we propose a routing cum energy recharging scheme using Mobile Power Back Ferry Nodes (MPBF). MPBF nodes are an alternative source arrangement for nodes to be replenished with sufficient energy. This approach retains the node energy to maximum time with improved battery life; thereby prolonging the network lifetime. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated using NS2 simulations. The results show that the proposed scheme can retain the network lifetime with longer time period under dense scenario suitable for Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN). Its performance is compared with power aware and ACO based energy efficient routing protocols under different QoS scenarios.
