Abstract:

This paper deals with the improved planning with suggestions for a real-time radial distribution system by performing reliability assessment. The system considered is Amrita power house II, Amrita University, Ettimadai campus, Coimbatore operating at 22kV/415V. Analysis on the system is carried out using ETAP software. System status subjected to different equipment failure as case studies are considered. Adaptive-Newton Raphson load flow method is adapted for analyzing the performance of the system. Based on severity of customer interruption due to fault of the equipment results in increased reliability indices. Suitable suggestion of placing the capacitor bank with optimal size and cost on suitable location is proposed by performing Optimal Capacitor Placement (OCP) using Genetic Algorithm (GA). It helps in achieving optimal cost with suitable size and location of the capacitor bank as such the overall system reliability is improved.
