Ambiguity function analysis of adaptive colored-noise radar waveforms

Adaptive radar waveforms may be designed to be spectrally orthogonal to the received time-varying interference environment. An eigendecomposition of the interference plus noise covariance matrix may be used to construct such waveforms as well as the multistage Wiener filter. These waveforms may have nonwhite (colored) noise spectra and have unique interference mitigation properties. An ambiguity function analysis is presented for colored waveforms to illustrate: 1) ambiguities, 2) resolution/accuracy of range (time) and Doppler (frequency) estimates, and 3) inherent interference rejection capabilities. Waveform performance is parameterized by metrics such as interference rank and others.
