Design and manufacturing of Ku band detector

A novel approach of a narrowband and external biased Schottky diode detector designed at centre frequency of 16 GHz is devised. The design is based on analytical computations and is simulated in Serenade Harmonica and validated experimentally. For experimental validation, a prototype was fabricated and tested using network analyzer. The manufactured component shows sensitivity in mV/mW against frequency when driven from 50 ohm source and a good linearity over entire band of 1.6 GHz (10% of centre frequency) at different input powers. Experiments also depict a good detection response with maximum detected voltage of 2125 mV and good VSWR, S-parameters and noise-figure (NF). The fabricated device can be used as status indicator and power monitor at microstrip based narrowband reception channels in Ku-band. Device technology developed is found precise, simple and cheap, and is suitable for mass production.
