Spatial and temporal correlation of muscle synergies in human walk-run transition

Humans change gait depending on moving speed from walking to running and from running to walking. However, it remains unclear what mechanisms contribute to the gait transition. In this study, we performed singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis on the EMG data measured in human walk-run transition (WRT) and run-walk transition (RWT) to investigate the gait transition mechanism from a viewpoint of muscle synergy. Our results suggest that humans have an unique step at the gait transitions, whose spatial and temporal patterns are similar to those for running.
