Automated HDL signal processing deployment performance from high level MATLAB specification for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)

Future Department of Defense needs include rapid implementation and testing of signal processing algorithms on forward deployed unmanned autonomous hardware systems. The Naval Research Laboratory has prototyped several signal processing algorithms to test the feasibility of using MATLAB with the HDL Coder toolbox for rapid implementation and testing of signal processing algorithms on hardware. This paper documents the signal processing algorithms and test inputs, MATLAB implementation, and performance and implementation results for generated VHDL code for specific targets.
