Synchronous generator stator earth fault classification and location using wavelet transform and ANFIS

Protection and continuous monitoring of the synchronous generators faults are important concerns for power generation manufacturers and operators. Hence this paper proposes a technique to detect, locate and classify synchronous generator stator earth faults by applying Wavelet Transform (WT), as a signal processing algorithm to extract features from neutral voltage and line current, then classify and locate the fault using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) technique. Equations of the proposed algorithm are introduced and then utilized using Simulink/Matlab analysis. Results for different operating conditions are illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
