Rehabilitation of primary distribution networks using distributed generation

Most of medium voltage distribution networks became aged and have low performance due to the continuous increasing of load demand. The low performance is represented by overloading on feeders and literals, high distribution losses, bad voltage regulation and low voltage stability margin. The location of distributed generation, (DGs) into the networks is becoming an essential option to rehabilitate such networks. This paper searches for optimal location of DGs in primary distribution networks. The objectives are; minimizing distribution losses, enhancing voltage regulation and improving voltage stability. It is modeled as a multi-objective problem subject to some equality and inequality constraints and solved using Power World Simulator software, (PWS). The proposed methodology has been tested on the modified IEEE 33-bus primary distribution network to emphasize its capability to rehabilitate such networks via improving its performance.
