Genetic algorithm improved spatial diversity 24-GHz FMCW radar with multipath for automotive applications

In automotive radar applications, multipath reflection from the ground degrades the received power, and reduces detection probability. The spatial diversity method has been proposed in 24-GHz frequency modulation continuous-wave (FMCW) radar architecture. Using genetic algorithm this paper improves the performance of spatial diversity method. The best position of antennas could be got through optimizing the received power on the one-transmitter-two-receiver (1T2R), one-transmitter-three-receiver (1T3R) and one-transmitter-four-receiver (1T4R) FMCW radar. And we explore the relationship between antenna number and the optimal performance at different height of the target. The simulation results show that the optimum performance and complicity of radar could be got when the antenna number is three.
