Survey of leakage magnetic fields from various induction heating ranges

Recently, use of an induction heating (IH) range, which heats using Joule heat based on eddy currents in a pan, has been increasing not only for household but commercial. Some of its users have concerns about the possible health effects of leakage magnetic fields from such induction heaiting ranges. In this study, we surveyed magnitude of leakage magnetic fields from in total 26 heating coils of IH ranges under the same measurement conditions such as the maximum output of heating power, the identical pan and the fixed distance from the center of the heating coil. Measured data were statistically analyzed. As a result, the leakage magnetic fields at 0.3 m apart from the center of heating coils for about half numbers of the heating coils were in the range from 1μT to 3μT. In addition, 85% of the IH ranges have leakage magnetic fields lower than 4μT. Maximum values of magnetic fields was 9.5μT at 0.3m apart from the center, which is enough lower than the reference levels established by ICNIRP.
