Development of a 5-18GHz, 150W TWT

A traveling wave tube (TWT) operating in the frequency band 5-18GHz with output power 150W is presently under development at e2v. The design of the tube has been carried out using an existing mini-TWT as a baseline. To start with, a number of codes available commercially and developed internally have been validated experimentally to establish their suitability in using them for design purpose. These codes have been used to design the TWT and sensitivity analysis of each component to set the dimensional tolerances. This paper presents experimental validation of codes, design methodology and experimental results of the TWT.
