Modal analysis for lateral dynamics of a high-speed train

Lateral dynamics of a railway vehicle plays a key role to the analysis of stability, derailments, and ride comforts of a train. This paper presents modal analysis for lateral dynamics of a high-speed train. The equations of motion for lateral dynamics are modeled with 17 degrees of freedom for one car of a train, which is composed of one carbody, two bogies, and four wheelsets. Wheel-rail contact is realized using Poalch's model. Lateral dynamics and wheel-rail contact are implemented using MATLAB program. Thirteen vibration modes from 0.53 Hz carbody roll to 39.77 Hz wheelset yaw are analyzed, and, moreover, are animated using block masses through simulation studies.
