Simulation and Analysis of an (RE)BCO Tape Stack Magnet Under the Pulsed Field Magnetization

Simulation studies were conducted on the pulsed field magnetization (PFM) of (RE)BCO tape stack magnet by solving the E-J power law model using the commercial software. Two kinds of approximate methods are proposed for the two-dimensional axisymmetric computation of the stack magnet, which are based on the
H
formulation and can be used to alleviate computational challenges for the multilayer tape structure with high aspect ratio. In the investigation of electromagnetic-thermal coupled problem of the stack under the PFM, the current and magnetic field distributions in the stack magnet are analyzed exactly. The remaining field density has a close relation to the pulsed field parameters and thermal properties of the tape material and is also limited by the initial cooling condition of the stack magnet. Flux is trapped and then the saturation values of the trapped field depend on the condition of the field penetration. In the simulation, it is not clear that the tape stack is ensured to trap higher fields than a bulk superconductor though the (RE)BCO tapes have better thermal properties.
