Investigation of cell surface interfacial interactions of HeLa cell cultured over self-assembled monolayer surface

In this study, it focused on the cell adhesion by study the cell surface interfacial interaction of HeLa cells cultured over self-assembled monolayer with the assistance of high voltage pulsed electric field inducement towards wound healing studies. The interaction of the cell with the protein surface is important in order to control the cell attachment, binding and signaling events that influence the cell structure and functions. Theoretically, the dynamic interaction between extracellular matrix proteins and receptors on cell membrane leads to cell adhesion, spreading, migration, proliferation, and differentiation. This study utilizes high-voltage pulse electric field with a parameter of 2kV voltage, 30μs of pulse duration and single pulse. Cells were plated on the two different type of surface (protein-coated surface and non-protein coated surface) by using self-assembled monolayer technique. The findings show that cells migrate and attached more on protein-coated surface compared to the non-protein coated surface. This shows a positive response and will contribute to wound healing studies.
