Dielectric and thermal conductivity studies on synthetic ester oil based TiO2 nanofluids

Presently, Green Insulating Fluid (GIF) based synthetic ester insulating oils are the industry preferred choices. Due to their higher flash point, moisture tolerance and very good environmental compatibility. In this paper, the dielectric and thermal properties of synthetic ester MIDEL 7131 based TiO
₂
nanofluids are studied. The semi-conductive type TiO
₂
nanopowder (50 nm) are used for preparing nanofluids by ultrasonication process. The treated nanofluid samples result of enhanced the values especially in AC break down voltage (15.3%) and Lightning impulse (3.6%) of nanofluids by acting as electron scavenger and also by improving thermal properties with increase in vol.% Hence, the synthetic ester based TiO
₂
nanofluids will be considered as an alternative medium for power transformer insulation by increasing load ability with reduced size than conventionally used petroleum based mineral oil.
