Outdoor-to-Indoor propagation mechanisms in multistorey building for 0.85 GHz and 1.9 GHz bands

This paper analyzes the outdoor-to-indoor (O2I) propagation characteristics for a roof-top multi-storey building located at a main university campus. For this purpose, we used measurements analysis and ray tracing simulation approach based on the use of REMCOM Wireless InSite software. Our results show that ray tracing technique achieves accurate values when detailed environments are described for the simulation. In terms of measured floor gain 12.31 dB on 0.85 GHz and 6.21 dB on 1.9 GHz results proved high compatibility with recent open literature. However, as low-cost receiver equipment and a site-specific description of the investigated scenario was used our mean received signal power values differs. Comparing our measurement results with predicted values showed a delta error margin deviation of approximately 10 dB. Additionally, we suggest further research using more precise environment description and specialized measurement equipment to deeply understand the radio propagation mechanisms already studied on this work.
