MicroASM: Academic simulator for x86 and MIPS32 assembly language

This document describes MicroASM, a pedagogical tool developed for teaching the assembly language. This simulator was designed to support a subset of instructions for the x86 and MIPS32 architectures. The choice between these two architectures was done with the purpose of showing the differences between CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computing) and RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing). MicroASM supports the execution of individual instruction using simple command line interface (CLI), a characteristic usually called REPL (Read-Eval-Print-Loop), apart from that, it allows the execution of a complete program from a text file. Finally, Easy ASM provides a code debugger that allows a step-by-step execution of a program and a series of very useful commands to analyze the changes generated by individual instructions.
