Toward an IoT-enabled adaptive interactive bus transportation system

Due to the rapid increasing usage of public transportation in everyday life, saving passenger time plays a vital role in passenger comfort as well as in his productivity which in turn affect the notational economy. Moreover, especially in the developing countries, bus transportation is the most commonly used way by people to travel to their jobs, universities, etc. On the other hand, bus transportation is the most transportation way that is affected by traffic congestion, as well it is affected by route violation. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for a system that monitors bus transportations, detects traffic jam, detects route violation and update the passenger about any unexpected condition that may occur. Moreover, since the presence of IoT technology as well as the increasing usage of smart phones, it seems evident that design and implementation of smart and interactive bus transportation system applicable to support smart cities environment. The aim of this paper is to present an adaptive system that uses IoT tracking unit, Geoserver reverse geocoding, QGIS, and web application server to monitor and manage bus transportation as well interact with the passenger through a mobile-enabled app.
