Design of a compact UWB patch antenna having rectangular parasitic elements for UWB and bluetooth applications

In this paper the design of a microstrip patch antenna is presented. The antenna is designed to operate in a frequency range of 2.29 GHz to 17.28 GHz, which covers the Bluetooth and Ultra Wide Band. The antenna consists of a U-shaped patch with rectangular parasitic elements. A finite ground plane is used for impedance matching and quarter circular slots on the lower edges of finite ground plane are fabricated to increase the bandwidth. . A coplanar waveguide is used to excite the antenna. The center frequency of operation is 8.79 GHz and antenna has an excellent return loss of more than 10 dB and 170.54% impedance bandwidth. Apart from the proposed design, a parametric analysis is added to summarize the effect of various design parameters. This parametric analysis is very helpful for modifying the design according to requirements.
