Comprehensive study on methods to reduce ash related issues in boiler

In most of the power plant coal is used as a fuel to generate electricity. Burning of coal in furnace generate greater amount of ash particles which fly with flue gas. Due to high temperature of heating surface in boiler, this fly ash gets stick on the surfaces causing various types of ash related issues such as slagging, ash sintering, ash fusion, agglomeration and corrosion etc. These problems have some adverse effects on the performance of power plant like reduce the electric generation capacity and increasing maintenance cost for cleaning of deposits. This review paper is focused on the ash related issues and their techniques available to reduce these problems. The techniques used to avoid or reduce the ash related issues are pulse detonation technology, soot blower, chemical treatment and using additives like sulphur based additives, calcium based additives, phosphorus based additives and aluminium silicate based additives are discussed with their effectiveness.
