Modeling and analysis of stator interturn faults in permanent magnet synchronous machine

Stator interturn short-circuits are injurious and difficult for detection faults, which are recurrent in permanent magnet synchronous machines. Since the use of this type of machine has been increasing, strategies for analysis and/or mitigation of this kind of fault must be developed. These strategies range from simulation or experimentation to detection, aiming analysis and machine repair, respectively. In this work, aiming the analysis, it proposes a suitable modeling for the machine, which takes into consideration issues like the harmonics involved in electrical AC machines under faulty conditions, switching of the converter supply and modifications in faulty winding parameters. The modeling has propitiated to obtain fault current behaviors that are impossible to measurements.
