Fall detection wearable device interconnected through ZigBee network

The time it takes a person to get treated after a fall, may define the degree of injury he may experience. The paper presents a method of fall detection on a wearable device and update update the intended recipient of the status of the subject wearing the fall detection device. The wearable device performs the majority of signal processing of the fall detection using embedded technology. It also sends notification to the intended recipient. The wearable device transmits the data in a ZigBee Network by using an XBee RF transceiver installed in the device. Another device utilized ESP8266 in this study acts as a gateway between IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) and 802.11 (Internet Protocol) to relay the data to the internet. With this, the intended recipient can receive the update using an Android Mobile Application that acquires the data from the internet. Through multiple testing and experiment, the researchers obtained a fall threshold of 9g, which means that a fall alert will be triggered whenever the ADXL345 digital accelerometer reads a value greater than 9g. The ZigBee Network in this study consists of two wearable devices, two routers, and one coordinator.
