Reliability evaluation of a new protective device scheme for the 34.5kV power distribution feeder circuit

This thesis focuses on improving the protection and performance of sample Radial Power Distribution Circuit in Manila. SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, ASUI, ASAI and ASCI were the commonly used reliability indices of distribution utility companies were also used in this study. The data to be used are legitimate and accurate from the distribution utility company responsible in the area. Historical Assessment were used as basis for the Predictive Assessment of the circuit to see its response to the different protective schemes applied to it. The study will consider seven (7) cases which are of different protective schemes. Through simulation and thorough study, it is found that case 3 wherein all the laterals were fused is the best protective scheme compared to the other protective schemes studied considering the performance it delivers and the cost of its installation as well as the cost gained from it. Microsoft Excel is the primary tool for doing simulation in this study. ETAP which is a very well known power system simulator was used in this thesis for comparative purposes and additional integrity to the results.
