Development of Motorcycle Data Logging System with Visual Basic Data Simulation for Accident Analysis

Here in the Philippines, the motorcycle is in demand even though that this type of transportation has the highest risk and prone to accidents compared to other mode of transportation. A motorcycle-related accident investigation sometimes lacks accuracy due to some inaccurate evidences. Basically, one example of that is when the accident happens in rural areas where there is no witness. Having this kind of dilemma, the researcher decided to innovate the way of collecting data by developing a Motorcycle Data Logging System with Visual Basic Data Simulation for Accident Analysis. The prototype has two separate devices to be connected to the motorcycle body and a helmet. First is the device connected to the motorcycle, it has a controller module which accept data coming from the sensors (such as hall effect sensor, gyroscope, brake detector, ultrasonic sensors) then processes it and save it to the memory module. The memory module can be plugged out during an investigation and plug into a computer. A Data Logger Application was made to easily present and simulate the data saved on the Secure Digital Card (SD card) for accident analysis. Second is the device attached to the helmet, it has its own controller to process data coming from alcohol detector. A Bluetooth Transmitter (TX) and Receiver (RX) will also be connected to each controller to send processed data to the device attached to the motorcycle. A camera is also added to the helmet; it will record and capture images which can also be used as evidence. After different test on the accuracy of data collected from different sensors, it can be concluded that the prototype is successfully designed and meets the objective of the study.
