Quest time with daring the dog — An exergame for children with cerebral palsy

Children with cerebral palsy often require care and attention in order to master skills required for everyday interactions. Underdeveloped communication and motor skills may result in physical and social isolation at school and later in adulthood. This, combined with absence of adequate learning tools to support their education, results in high rate of dropout from school. To address those issues, we designed Quest Time with Daring the Dog; an exergame that allows children with cerebral palsy to interact with animated characters on screen and practice social and motor skills. Through a process of co-design with children, their care-takers and experts we incorporated into the game, a strategy through which the player (a child with cerebral palsy) would imitate and learn from an animated character. The exergame was modeled based on an observational learning strategy devised from Bandura's theoiy of social learning [1].
