RFin–RFout Linearizer System Design for Satellite Communication

The linearizer has now become an essential component for improving the linearity of high-power amplifiers (HPAs) such as traveling-wave tube amplifiers and solid-state power amplifiers leading to better signal quality. This paper presents an RF
_in
-RF
_out
wideband linearization system for HPAs. The proposed linearizer is designed for S-band frequency; however, proof of concept for translating this system for C-band has been shown. Being an RF-in RF-out system, the linearizer does not suffer from bandwidth limitation imposed by digital-to-analog converters for digital predistortion. The proposed system is a frequency configurable standalone system which can be fit for repeaters and satellite transponders. The linearization performance has been investigated using multicarrier and two-tone signals.
