Toward smart health care: Building a national health information infrastructure(EESZT) in Hungary

Starting a comprehensive eHealth solution, this year is one of the most important goals of Hungarian health care sector. The architecture of the new nation-wide information service system named EESZT (Elektronikus Egészségügyi Szolgáltatási Tér, Electronic eHealth Service System) [1] is service oriented (SOA) and consists of a series of components that are to be connected to each other. All these components are interoperable using localized version of CEN/ISO 13606 EHR [2] standard. The EESZT system supports information exchange between healthcare providers and patients and provides centralized eHealth services as ePrescription, EHR repository, catalog of health events, service ordering, etc. The launch of EESZT acting as a strategic link between Hungarian healthcare providers is a significant step towards the creation of a computerized health care. EESZT will open up new horizons for us and is leading the way towards development of Hungarian smart hospitals [3]. Presenter evaluates the components of EESZT, aware of their real opportunities for improvement of services of health care providers. The second part of presentation focuses on new challenges and plan of action of the next development period related to eHealth in Hungary.
