Design of waveguide slot array to generate sum and difference pattern for synthetic aperture radar

For synthetic aperture radar there is an increasing demand of tracking system for high power antenna. This article presents the design of waveguide fed slot array antenna with Bayliss difference and Taylor sum pattern to meet the requirements of tracking system, as well as the high power efficiency. The standard X band waveguide is used with the operating frequency of 9.375 GHz. The design is simulated in full wave EM simulator with opposite excitation for difference pattern. The results shows quite good agreement between theory and simulations. For both arrays, VSWR ≤ 2 and side lobe level for difference pattern is -20 dB and approximately -8 dB for sum pattern.
