Demonstration of scalable spectrum-sliced optical WDM-PON access system

Nowadays the demand for transmission capacity in the next generation fiber optical access networks is growing rapidly. In this research the 32-channel direct detection spectrum sliced WDM-PON transmission system operation with different line codes has been demonstrated over non-zero dispersion shifted (NZ-DSF) ITU G.655 fiber. Proposed 32-channel spectrum slicing system is sufficient to provide data transmission with bitrate of 10Gbit/s per channel with BER <; 10~³ if additional 7% forward error correction (FEC) bits are used. A comparison of the different line codes such as non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ) and duobinary (DB) was made where the best performance was shown by NRZ line code.
