A new method for constructing an orthogonal system of eigenwaves of an open cylindrical waveguide surrounded by an isotropic medium

A new method for constructing an orthogonal system of eigenwaves of an open cylindrical waveguide filled with a gyrotropic medium and surrounded by an isotropic medium is presented. Expressions for the fields of discrete- and continuous-spectrum waves of the waveguide are obtained in closed form. To demonstrate the application of the developed approach, a given test field is expanded in terms of the derived eigenwaves and then synthesized again by evaluating the corresponding expansion. Perfect coincidence between the result yielded by this procedure and the initially chosen test field is demonstrated.
