Design of optical microresonators for fiber-optic sensor networks transparent in Mid-IR

Features of whispering gallery modes of chalcogenide fiber based microresonators have been studied in a numerical model and in experiment. The second-order group velocity dispersion parameters and intrinsic Q-factors of arsenic sulfide microspheres have been evaluated over the near- and mid-IR spectral ranges. Due to optimization of the microresonators fabrication method, high-Q microresonators have been produced with the maximum Q-factor equal to 7.6 × 10

. A tendency of the measured Q-factors increase with a micoresonator size decrease has been revealed.
