SIMO topology based residential inverter system for enhanced renewable energy utilization

Advanced power electronics technologies and control systems have paved the way for elevated utilization of renewable sources for residential applications like inverters. However increased number of power conversion stages in such systems results in lower efficiency and higher cost. This paper proposes a residential inverter system with single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) topology that can effectively integrate residential renewable energy source like roof mounted solar panels with existing battery and loads. The proposed topology facilitates renewable energy to be used for both battery charging as well as feeding the residential loads with minimal converter circuits. An energy management system is also proposed for the developed system to control the power flow and maintain utmost continuity in power delivered. Design and case studies are presented to corroborate efficacy of the system.
