A compact and wideband circularly polarized slot antenna based on AMC for satellite communication

The design of a compact and wideband circular polarization slot antenna using artificial magnetic conductors for satellite communication is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a square-loop slot, a feeding network, and an AMC surface. The feeding network is composed of a Wilkinson power divider, a 90
⁰
-phase shifter, and two straight feeding lines. The AMC surface is added at the backside of the slot antenna to enhance the boresight gains. Simulated and measured results including S11, axial-ratio (AR), radiation patterns, and realized boresight gains are given. The antenna can operate in the bandwidth of 4.65–6.15 GHz with left-handed circular polarization.
