Smart glove for visually impaired

The research aimed to design a mobility aid for visually impaired. It was carried out to design a system which was compact and required with little or no training for users. The main focus of the research was to build a user-friendly design. The paper describes two different software developments on mobility aid using ultrasonic sensors. The signals send by the sensor detect obstacles and let user knows by vibrating a motor. Following evaluation, it is clear that the proposed design can be developed further to be used as a convenient and low-cost travel aid for the visually impaired as it is cost effective and user-friendly. The results of the testing demonstrate that the smart glove can be used to guide the visually impaired for indoor. However, further developments are required to improve the reliability of the smart glove such as to detect uneven floor levels. The details of the test results are discussed further in the paper.
