Agent-based modeling of high-resolution household electricity demand profiles: A novel tool for policy evaluating

The large-scale integration of renewable energy source into electricity grid creates new challenges to the grid stability and puts forward new demands to demand-side management. This paper adopted agent-based modeling method to build a flexible household model for evaluating different gird regulation policies. According to the different usage pattern, this study classifies the commonly used household electrical appliances into four categories: shiftable load, sheddable load, instantaneous load and baseload. Different kind of load has different characters and responses differently to regulation policies. The work proposed an agent-based model to simulate the actual operation conditions of the appliances and generate a high-resolution household energy demand profile. This could provide a helpful reference for community facility managers and energy companies in policy decision process and help them implement accurate energy consumption controlling strategies.
