An efficient hop selection model to enhance lifetime of wireless sensor network

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is composed of small and low-cost sensor devices which are battery powered and are deployed in non-rechargeable location. Therefore preserving the energy of these resource constrained sensor devices is most desired. Recently co-operative communication has attained wide interest and has been adopted by various clustering approaches which is a potential solution to preserve energy of these devices. These techniques are not efficient in enhancing the lifetime of sensor network since they considered minimizing energy consumption per bit only. To address this, here we present a distributed MAC (Medium Access control) transceiver optimization for hop selection. The proposed model minimizes the energy consumption and maximizes the lifetime of sensor network. Experimental results shows significant performance improvement over existing approach in terms of life enhancement.
