Research on the availability of virtual satellite network attachment points based on satellite-fixed footprint and Earth-fixed footprint solution

Enhancing mobility in a highly dynamic LEO satellite network is a critical issue to achieve seamless and efficient interconnection of satellite network and terrestrial mobile endpoints. Virtual attachment point approach is investigated to hide the mobility of satellites from the mobile endpoints. In this work, mathematical models for both earth-fixed footprints and satellite-fixed footprint are introduced along with their contributions to the virtual attachment point availability. Comparing the evaluation results, we conclude with the benefits of constructing an earth-fixed footprint based virtual attachment point.
