Energy-efficient hybrid wireless transmission system

In a conventional wireless transmission system, studies are usually focus on increasing transmission rate instead of energy efficiency (EE). In this paper, we propose a hybrid transmission strategy to investigate the EE in a wireless transmission system. In this hybrid transmission strategy, the transmission mode is switched between the direct transmission (DT) mode and the amplify-and-forward relay transmission (AFRT) mode. The switch method is based on a transmission rate threshold which makes the EEs of the two kinds of transmission modes equal. Furthermore, we propose an energy-efficient adaptive transmission (EEAT) algorithm to fulfill the hybrid transmission strategy. The simulation results are conducted and they also show that our hybrid transmission strategy always has the maximum EE.
