Low profile wideband planar AMC surface for X-band applications

This paper proposes a novel design of low profile wideband artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) surface structure. The ±90° reflection phase bandwidth of the AMC surface is 7.93-12.23 GHz (S11≤ -10 dB), while the 0° reflection phase center frequency is 10 GHz. With the utilizing of the 6 × 6 AMC surface, a patch antenna can achieve a bandwidth enhancement of 233% and increased gain of more than 2 dB in the operating frequency band of the AMC surface.
