Decentralized coordinated scheduling with muting in LTE-Advanced networks

In this work, decentralized coordinated scheduling in LTE-Advanced downlink networks is studied, where the base stations abstain from transmitting data on particular frequency/time resources in order to reduce the inter-cell interference experienced by users connected to neighboring base stations. The proposed decentralized scheme is derived with regard to low information exchange between the base stations, thus trading-off user throughput and backhaul connectivity requirements. Extensive simulations of medium to large-size networks are carried out, where the proposed decentralized scheme achieves similar or even better performance than state-of-the-art algorithms, especially for the users located at the cell-edge, while significantly reducing the amount of exchanged information.
