Analysis of evasion and its causes in a computer science course

The growth in the number of places in Brazilian higher education was of great benefit to the country, bypassing the elitist model that marked the beginning of academic activities in Brazi. However, the social and economic impact can be minimized by the occurrence of the evasion phenomenon. We highlight the investments in science, technology and innovation that has higher education as its great ally, especially in what refers to technology courses. The evasion has been the motivation of several studies on education in higher education, and the results of these studies should subsidize the academic managers to initiate actions that minimize the occurrence of this phenomenon, and make that an offered upper course provides the expected economic and social impact. In this sense, this work performs an analysis of the phenomenon of evasion in a course of Computer Science of a public institution under the prism of several previous works on the subject, and with new contributions of the authors. The results bring a discussion about the use of evasion rates and use a categorization of evasion dimensions, adapted from previous approaches.
