Quality of information maximization for wireless sensor networks with heterogeneous traffic

In this paper, we investigate the quality of information (QoI) maximization problem by jointly optimizing the sampling rate, packet-dropped rate, and transmit power in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We consider a complicated but practical scenario, where various tasks with heterogeneous traffic are supported by one WSN simultaneously. Accordingly, the QoI maximization problem is formulated as a stochastic optimization problem subject to differentiated traffic constraints. To tackle the problem, Lyapunov technique is applied to obtain a integrated QoI of heterogeneous traffic maximization algorithm. Results show that, a control parameter enables an explicit tradeoff between the time average QoI and queue backlogs.
