Analysis of outer rotor synchronous reluctance motor for low-speed applications

The paper presents the analysis of the performances of an Outer Rotor Synchronous Reluctance Machine as potential candidate for direct-driven low speed industrial application. The influence of slot/pole combination, as well as the number of flux-barriers was investigated in order to arrive to a topology suitable for the targeted application. The proposed machine has the highest average torque and the lowest torque ripple content. Further computations give the insights on the iron losses and saliency ratio of the machine.
